An article was originally written by DLA’s first president Dick Dowling, which appeared in the
History of Clarence Township: Then and Now. Here is a part of that article:
“The Duck Lake Association was formed in 1970 to respond to concerns of lake residents and to
provide a vehicle through which members could communicate with each other and with the Clarence
Township Board ... areas for association action included: Detailed identification of properties
involved.” Before 1970, there was not a Duck Lake directory published.
Back in the 50’s, and 60’s, Silver Beach Resort at the north end, kept a 3 Ring Binder that
contained cottage numbers and owner’s names. (Bunk Garfield, owner of the Silver Beach store,
obtained a copy from Consumers Power.)
Folks would occasionally come to the store and ask for directions to some lake resident’s
cottage. Bunk would pull the binder from behind the counter and provide the welcome address
information and directions!
